Our Story

Tamale.jpg

Salvador Molly’s began in 1994 as a single tamale cart at the Portland Farmers Market. It was the passion of food and travel by chef Scott Maritz that created something unique that eventually led to our brick and mortar restaurant 25 years ago. In 2017, Brian Ford purchased the restaurant from the original owner. Brian is a local restaurateur who began his career in the restaurant business working at his Father’s nationally recognized steakhouse in Portland Oregon; Henry Ford’s Restaurant.

Our vision is and always will be to continue to take recipes and flavors from around the globe and fuse them into what we call “A World of Flavors”. These flavors are vibrant dishes from areas like the Caribbean, Hawaii, Baja, exotic Africa, Latin America, New Orleans & Asia. We also offer exotic cocktails and a variety of local beer and wine.

Each month during the school year we have a “Fun Raiser” to help a local school with much needed projects. We also host monthly Friends and Family night to raise funds and awareness for non-profits that help people in need. We are proud to be a gathering place where the whole family and entire neighborhood feel welcome.

That’s our story. What’s yours? It’s a wide world full of vibrant flavors. New discoveries and friends are waiting to be made. Please share your travels with pictures, recipes, and stories at Salvador Molly’s and let’s gather at the table for a delicious bite and some tasty conversation.

Buying Practices

Salvador Molly’s is a locally owned and operated restaurant in Portland, supporting our local businesses and farms for the past 27 years. We are pleased to work with Gathering Together Farms and DeNoble Farms to source as much of our produce as possible.

The businesses that supply us with dry goods, spices, and paper products provide local jobs and source local products whenever possible, and themselves pursue green operating practices. Even the company that services our dishwashing machines recycles all detergent and sanitizer containers! No landfill waste.
